What Is TPO?
Thermoplastic polyolefin membrane or TPO is a single-ply roofing system first introduced in the early 1990s as a more economical and efficient alternative to PVC roofing. The membrane itself is composed of three distinct layers: the TPO polymer base, the polyester-reinforced fabric center or scrim and the thermoplastic polyolefin-compounded top ply.
Like other commercial roofing systems, TPO membrane uses common fillers, such as talc, fiberglass and carbon fiber, to name a few. Rubber is also used in the manufacturing of this membrane, such as ethylene-propylene rubber and EPDM.
